Opened in 2005 after relocating to Victoria Street, the National Library houses an extensive collection of print, digital, video and audio resources across topics of Business, Science, Technology, Arts, Social Sciences, Humanities, History and News. Visitors can visit the library to access these resources across the 6 floors of the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library. Permanent, special, and online exhibitions featuring their rich collections are also hosted all year round.
BLACK was commissioned to design and develop a guidebook that help visitors navigate between the collections and spaces of the library, learn about the history of the National Library, and promote the services and programmes offered at the space.
An illustrated cover featuring the various spaces, resources, programmes and services was designed with a simple directory to provide an overview of the library at a glance. A gentle and calming colour palette, paired with a friendly typeface, were used to invite the audience to read through the guidebook. The guidebook is then presented in a sewn saddle stich booklet, for a more comfortable reading experience while ensuring durability and reusability.
