Held in conjunction with the Singapore International Water Week and the CleanEnviro Summit Singapore, the biennial World Cities Summit (WCS) is an exclusive platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainable city challenges, share integrated urban solutions and forge new partnerships.
BLACK was commissioned to update the Summit’s identity to reflect its acclaimed position as a platform for global dialogue on bettering cities, and inject adaptability and endurance into its new look for digital environments. The refresh also included reviewing and harmonising the individual logos of the key events which the Summit is anchored by, to its main identity.
Accompanying the refresh, a new key visual was created for the Summit’s 7th edition in 2020/2021. Themed ‘Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Adapting to a Disrupted World’, the key visual reflected this idea in a juxtaposition of an ideal city of the future against the backdrop of one we would live in if our present world challenges were not addressed. For adaptability across platforms of all sizes and shapes, the key visual was created with a modular system of smaller units. They each visualised a key subject of the Summit: Garden City, Solar Energy, Urban Farming, Green Energy, etc. Each unit could be extracted and multiple units re-composed for varying applicationsand purposes, from a web thumbnail to a billboard advertisement.
A variation of the key visual was created and optimised for screen sharing for the Summit’s Webinar Series—a supplement to the original programming during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
